Persuasive Pastoral Leaders: Epistemological Issues in DMin Projects
Abstract
Based on the author’s study of DMin project reports from numerous schools and experience working with DMin students, this essay suggests that methodology courses in DMin programs should include more emphasis on epistemological tools. Interdisciplinary consideration of what it means to claim that we know something, such as the work of philosopher Karl Popper, would enhance DMin education. The criteria for evaluating and assessing truth claims in our work have significant consequences for the authority of ministry as practical and public theology.
